A GST calculator is a comprehensive online tool designed to help Indian businesses and individuals calculate Goods and Services Tax (GST) accurately. Our advanced GST calculator supports all types of GST calculations including CGST (Central GST), SGST (State GST), and IGST (Integrated GST) for both intra-state and inter-state transactions. Whether you need to add GST to a base amount, extract GST from an inclusive price, or analyze composition scheme benefits, our calculator handles it all with precision using official GST formulas as prescribed by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. Implemented on July 1, 2017, GST replaced multiple indirect taxes like VAT, service tax, excise duty, and others. It's a destination-based tax collected at each stage of the supply chain with input tax credit available. GST has multiple rate slabs: 0%, 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, with 18% being the most common rate applied to most goods and services.
Our GST calculator uses official GST formulas to provide accurate calculations. For GST exclusive calculation, it adds GST to the base amount: GST Amount = (Base Amount × GST Rate) / 100. For GST inclusive calculation (reverse GST), it extracts the original amount: Original Amount = (Total Amount × 100) / (100 + GST Rate). The calculator automatically determines whether to apply CGST+SGST (for intra-state) or IGST (for inter-state) based on your transaction type selection, ensuring compliance with Indian GST laws.
This GST calculator is developed based on official GST laws and regulations as per the CGST Act, 2017 and IGST Act, 2017. Our calculation formulas are verified against official GST portal guidelines and CBIC notifications. We regularly update the calculator to reflect the latest GST rate changes and amendments announced by the GST Council. For complex tax scenarios or business-specific GST queries, we recommend consulting with a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) or tax professional registered with ICAI.

For planning and estimation
Select "GST Exclusive" if you want to add GST to a base amount (common for pricing products). Select "GST Inclusive" if you have the final price and want to extract the GST component (useful for analyzing bills and invoices). GST Exclusive is used when you know the cost price and want to calculate the selling price with GST. GST Inclusive (Reverse GST) is used when you know the final price and want to find out how much GST is included in it.
Choose "Intra-State" if both the supplier and buyer are located in the same state. This will split the GST into CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST), each being 50% of the total GST rate. Choose "Inter-State" if the supplier and buyer are in different states. This will apply IGST (Integrated GST) at the full GST rate. For example, for a Delhi to Delhi transaction, use Intra-State (9% CGST + 9% SGST = 18%). For Delhi to Mumbai, use Inter-State (18% IGST).
Input the amount in rupees. For GST Exclusive, enter the base amount (before GST). For GST Inclusive, enter the total amount (including GST). Then select the applicable GST rate from the dropdown: 0% (nil rated goods), 0.25% (precious stones), 3% (gold jewelry), 5% (essential goods), 12% (standard goods), 18% (most common - default rate), or 28% (luxury goods). The 18% rate applies to most goods and services including IT services, telecom, and financial services.
The calculator instantly displays a comprehensive breakdown showing the original amount, total GST amount, CGST and SGST (for intra-state) or IGST (for inter-state), and the final amount. All values are calculated in real-time as you change inputs. The results are color-coded for easy understanding: blue for CGST, purple for SGST, indigo for IGST, and green for the final amount. You can use these calculations for pricing, invoicing, tax planning, and GST compliance.

Use CGST + SGST for intra-state transactions where both supplier and buyer are in the same state. The total GST is split equally between Central and State governments.
Example:
Delhi to Delhi: 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST
Mumbai to Pune: 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST
Use IGST for inter-state transactions where supplier and buyer are in different states. IGST is collected by the Central government and later distributed between states.
Example:
Delhi to Mumbai: 18% IGST
Bangalore to Kolkata: 18% IGST
To calculate GST in India, use the formula: GST Amount = (Original Amount × GST Rate) / 100. For example, if the base amount is ₹10,000 and GST rate is 18%, GST = ₹10,000 × 18 / 100 = ₹1,800. Total amount = ₹10,000 + ₹1,800 = ₹11,800. For intra-state transactions, this splits into CGST (9%) and SGST (9%). For inter-state, it's IGST (18%). Our GST calculator does this automatically for all GST rates.
CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) apply to intra-state transactions (within the same state), with each being 50% of the total GST rate. For example, 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST. IGST (Integrated GST) applies to inter-state transactions (between different states) and equals the full GST rate. CGST goes to the central government, SGST to the state government, and IGST is collected centrally then distributed between states.
Reverse GST calculation finds the original amount when you know the GST-inclusive price. Formula: Original Amount = (Final Amount × 100) / (100 + GST Rate). For example, if final amount is ₹11,800 with 18% GST: Original = (₹11,800 × 100) / 118 = ₹10,000. GST Amount = ₹11,800 - ₹10,000 = ₹1,800. Use our Reverse GST Calculator tab for instant calculations with automatic CGST/SGST or IGST breakdown.
GST Composition Scheme is a simplified tax scheme for small businesses with turnover up to ₹1.5 crore. Tax rates: 1% for manufacturers/traders, 6% for service providers, 5% for restaurants. Benefits include lower tax rates, quarterly returns, and reduced compliance. Limitations: Cannot collect GST from customers, no input tax credit, limited inter-state supplies. Use our Composition Scheme Calculator to check eligibility and calculate tax liability.
India has 6 GST rate slabs: 0% (essential items like milk, bread, education), 0.25% (precious stones), 3% (gold jewelry), 5% (essential goods like sugar, tea, medicines), 12% (computers, processed foods), 18% (most goods and services - default rate), and 28% (luxury items like cars, AC, cigarettes). The 18% rate is most common and applies to IT services, telecom, financial services, and most manufactured goods. Our calculator supports all these rates.
To generate GST invoice: (1) Go to 'Invoice Generator' tab, (2) Enter business details (name, GSTIN, invoice number, date), (3) Click 'Add Item' to add products/services, (4) For each item, enter description, HSN code, quantity, rate, and GST percentage, (5) Add multiple items with different GST rates if needed, (6) View automatic calculation of subtotal, CGST, SGST/IGST, and grand total. The invoice shows complete GST-compliant breakdown ready for your business use.
Use intra-state (CGST + SGST) when both supplier and buyer are in the same state. For example, Delhi to Delhi or Mumbai to Mumbai transactions. Use inter-state (IGST) when supplier and buyer are in different states, like Delhi to Mumbai or Bangalore to Kolkata. Also use IGST for imports and exports. The calculator automatically splits GST correctly based on your selection, ensuring compliance with GST laws.
Yes, our GST calculator is perfect for business invoicing. The Invoice Generator feature creates professional, GST-compliant invoices with multiple items, different GST rates, HSN codes, and automatic calculations. It's suitable for retailers, wholesalers, service providers, manufacturers, and freelancers. The calculator handles all GST rates (0% to 28%), both intra-state and inter-state transactions, and provides detailed breakdowns required for GST compliance and filing.
HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) is an international product classification system used for uniform GST rates globally. HSN code requirement depends on turnover: Businesses with turnover > ₹5 crore must use 6-digit HSN codes, turnover ₹1.5-5 crore need 4-digit codes, and below ₹1.5 crore it's optional. Our invoice generator includes HSN code field for each item, helping you maintain compliance and making your invoices more professional.
Composition scheme offers significantly lower tax rates: 1% for traders/manufacturers vs 18% in regular scheme, 6% for services vs 18%, and 5% for restaurants vs 5-18%. For example, a trader with ₹50 lakh turnover pays only ₹50,000 (1%) under composition vs potentially ₹2-3 lakh in regular scheme (after input credit). Additional benefits: quarterly returns instead of monthly, simplified compliance, lower accounting costs. However, you cannot collect GST from customers or claim input tax credit.
