Scientific notation is a standardized method of expressing very large or very small numbers in a compact, easy-to-read format. It consists of two main components: a coefficient (mantissa) and an exponent.

Converting a number to scientific notation follows these simple steps:
Example 1: Large Number

E-notation (exponential notation) is a computer-friendly way to represent scientific notation. Instead of writing "ร 10^", it uses the letter "e" or "E" followed by the exponent.
Important Note:
The "e" in E-notation stands for "exponent" (power of 10), NOT Euler's number (2.718...). Both scientific notation and E-notation represent the same value, just in different formats.
Rule: (a ร 10^m) ร (b ร 10^n) = (a ร b) ร 10^(m+n)
Example: (3 ร 10^4) ร (2 ร 10^3)
= (3 ร 2) ร 10^(4+3)
= 6 ร 10^7
Rule: (a ร 10^m) รท (b ร 10^n) = (a รท b) ร 10^(m-n)
Example: (6 ร 10^8) รท (2 ร 10^3)
= (6 รท 2) ร 10^(8-3)
= 3 ร 10^5
Rule: Exponents must be the same before adding/subtracting coefficients
Example: (4 ร 10^6) + (3 ร 10^5)
Convert: 3 ร 10^5 = 0.3 ร 10^6
= (4 + 0.3) ร 10^6
= 4.3 ร 10^6
